Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative stated the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
